Hello All, have recently acquired a couple of AS cases stuffed with various modules, keyboard, mixer, monitors, interfaces and more cables than the Large Hadron Collider. Problem now is setting it all up and making beautiful noise. Anyone out there in the Brighton area that can help? Cheers!

Great, does anyone have a clip of that video? - is it good for newbies - as im getting into modular synthesis too.. does the video cover a broad range, say from beginners to advanced ? --- In analogue_systems@yahoogroups.com, Alex Banks <alexander.banks@...> wrote:

Hello, are the modules in the cases? A good introduction to synthesis in the Analogue Systems video available on the site. Hello again, the video is an introduction to the basics which I found very useful. I don't think there are clips about. I was in the same boat having bought an Integrator system second hand and not knowing where to start. As far as advanced stuff goes, its more a case of getting stuck in and seeing what happens. I loose hours doing this. There are a few bits of info on the web showing patches, but the video tought me all the basics. I think it would be a good idea for the group to send each other patch ideas, so let me start the ball rolling: I make drum and Bass. I send a sub tone to a Vintage Rat distortion pedal so it sounds warm, but not heavily distorted. This goes to the AS filter then out to two VCAs in series. The midi trigger from the sequencer is also sent to a MIDI to CV converter to act as a gate signal. This is sent to an envelope generator which sends to the filter cutoff. Play about... And to another envelope gen which shapes both (or one) VCA. I like a zero attack withy quick decay to a 70%-80% sustain. Saturate the VCAs and experiment with Lin and Exp response. Try setting the 1st VCA to fully open (the ENV will then add to the level). This gives me a heavy, rounded Dub note that can really cut through mixes. Hope any of the above helps. Next time I'll tell you how to turn a break beat into an Acid bassline... Good luck :-) Alex On 1 Dec 2008, at 14:11, chrismousdale wrote: > Great, does anyone have a clip of that video? - is it good for > newbies - as im getting into > modular synthesis too.. does the video cover a broad range, say > from beginners to > advanced ? > > --- In analogue_systems@yahoogroups.com, Alex Banks > <alexander.banks@...> wrote: > > > > Hello, > > > > are the modules in the cases? > > > > A good introduction to synthesis in the Analogue Systems video > > available on the site. > > > > Alex > > > > > > On 1 Dec 2008, at 13:01, miles.faber wrote: > > > > > Hello All, have recently acquired a couple of AS cases stuffed > with > > > various modules, keyboard, mixer, monitors, interfaces and more > cables > > > than the Large Hadron Collider. this is what i've been hoping for. i bought a AS System 1 and have been looking all over for video information on patching and how to's on sound designs On Dec 1, 2008, at 12:16 PM, Alex Banks wrote: > Hello again, > > the video is an introduction to the basics which I found very > useful. Go to AnalogueSystems.com. Then click on "Skip Intro" at the top. Then click upon 'Modules' at the top-left. Then scroll or jump all of the way to the bottom, for there the video lies in wait to be ordered. There is also a good book called (wait for it...) "Programming Synthesizers" by the chaps at Wizoo Books. It ships with a free software synth that has a built-in oscilloscope. Everything translates over to full analogue modulars, so you can skip the CD if you wish or use them both. It's up to you. This book guides you through pretty much everything. However, the software synth within is super old-school and only runs on Mac OS 9 (Classic Mode works under OS X) or Win 95- XP.
