Youll need a +-12 Volts power supply and some modules need +5 V also!!! Hbb 15-1.5 is +-15 Volts and you can damage some modules!!!! The hbb15-1.5a is adjustable between 12 and 15 volts. Set it to 15 for motm / oakley or 12 for analogue systems / doepfer. Julian ps. isnt condor the same as power one now or somthing? i remember somthing about that... ? Kind of. I presume that must be a double sided pcb. And that the analogue and digital grounds are kept seperate. I know that the doepfer bus is a lot simpler. The grounds are combined on the module (where aplicable) and the bus has no components on it. Im suspecting that the a.systems one may be more similar in design to the doepfer one, rather then the motm. Have a look at tuesdays attempts by myself: http://www.port23.co.uk/bus/ (remmber, as mentioned, the AS connectors are different though... and maybe the bus too, so i should shut up really before i get out of my depth) Julian

Remember, not using the AS PSU will void their warranty. Just know this before you do anything. I do think Bob needs to release a stand alone unit however as rack mounting may not be everyone's first choice (as it wasn't mine). Condor makes a supply however that is adjustable from 15 to 12 and is bipolar and really really good. Mine are fused of course, but I've never blown one - the supply goes into foldback way before my FASTBLO fuse goes! A very well protected unit. You can find these at Mouser in the US for about $80 or so bucks with a 1.7 amp limit. They also have a 3 amp model for a little under twice that. Regarding the 5 volt supply - not all modules need this, but ones with displays definately do. If you plan to do with a 5 volt regulator off the 12 volt line, it will work, but I strongly suggest you mount it on a heat sink because that little guy will get hotter than a pistol otherwise. hope this helps, Peter ALMAGATA@telefonica.net wrote:

Yeah, I read the warranty issue on their website. I'm going to have to take that chance becuase I don't have a need for the AS equipment that come with the power supplies. And I also noticed the MOTM power supply and Power One unit mentioned earlier is +/- 15VDC. Thanks for suggesting the Condor. I'll look into that. Cheaper than the MOTM-900 kit, too. Since I'm power supply illiterate and have never used modules before...do these power supplies (like the Condor) come with the connectors for the AS modules to connect to? Do AS modules use this "standard" 4 Pin (MTA-156) connector for power? Thanks so much, ~Gman

Those components of the MOTM buss card are filter caps - no worries, they won't cause anything but cleaner power. I do not believe the analog and digital grounds are isolated on the MOTM distribution panel, but use of this panel eliminated daisy chaining as Serge does it, which is the WORST thing to do for clean grounds. The ground lines are doubled up only because it makes good electrical sense to do sot. Remember, the ground receives the return for the +12, -12 and 5 volt lines. Also look into the Blacet PSCONN and Cynthia 'Combo-distro'. And yes, A Sys power termination is completely different than MOTM/Blacet, Cynthia/Modcan and Doepfer. There is a notation on this site that outlines the pinouts for A. System's 16 pin DIP used for the suuply voltages. Julian wrote:

Julian wrote: > ...do these power supplies(like the Condor) come with the connectors for the > AS modules to connect to? nope! The don't even have AC connection or fuses. Listen, if you're not incliined to do this stuff, I would recommend the Blacet PS500. It's only 500ma, but it's clean as hell electrically and is ready to plug in. It comes with a power distribution panel for six modules and you can buy his PSCONNs which supply an additional 9 slots each. -and- you'll need to make cables to go from those to the A. Sys modules.

Thanks. I see that the PS500 gives +/- 15V. Won't this cause a problem since I'm looking for +/- 12V? ~Gman

i believe it's adjustable to 12 - let me ask John in the AM and get back with you guys. But if not, yes, it will cause big problems. Gman wrote:

So, I got my AS modules today (RS500e and RS510e) and noticed a 16 pin male ribbon connector on both modules. I did some poking around the web and ended up at the Doepfer website. I stumbled across their A-100MNT "Miniature Power Supply and Bus Board (http://www.doepfer.de/a100z_e.htm) to connect 4 modules. It has +/- 12V, +5V and 16 pin connectors for the modules (male). I don't plan to power more than these two AS modules for right now. If I was to find a 16 pin (female/female) adapter of some sort could this power supply be used with the AS modules you think? Thanks, ~Gman
