Analogue systems

Following the thread:
(and it is indeed a thread as it causes screws to take up purchase in 
screwholes)

'doepfer and solutions holes aren't quite the same as Analogue Systems 
ones and they don't fit in the racks without gaps'

I had an idea which may go some way to solving the problems

It should be possible with an accurate bench drill and a blatant 
disregard for warranties to add an extra pair of holes to any module so 
that it will butt up to any other module - then any gap will be at the 
end and can be 'patched' with a home made 'multiple'

Oh, and while I'm at it the Doepfer racks and the AS racks seem to use 
different sizes of screws

I can confirm that Asystems and Doepfer use different screws, in case confirmation was necessary. :-)

It is *not* necessary to drill holes into the front panels to mix 
ASol, ASys and Doepfer. I'm only familiar with Doepfer's racks but 
the following should work for any euro rack:
Just take of one side panel to pull out the mounting rails and 
replace them for nuts! (E.g. the back panel of your rack is already 
mounted with nuts instead of a mounting rail.) Now you have two ways 
to mount modules: 1) If you have a enough modules to fill up the 
frame you can insert them from the side. Just put srews into their 
holes and attach nuts losely to them. Now you can carefully shuffle 
nuts and modules to their place. The nuts will slide where the 
mounting rail was. Once in their position fix the screw.
2) You have to not enough modules to fill a whole frame. Just put a 
load of nuts where the rails have been. Every now and then you want 
to add a module just turn the frame onto it's back. Push the nuts to 
where they're needed with a little screwdriver. Fix the module.
By the way, Doepfer uses foursquare nuts but you can use the usual 
ones instead. The just have to fit the space the rail left.
