Is it worth me opening the unit up and seeing if i can see whats wrong with the encoder?

Ok, thanks, that is encouraging.
I didn't realise that cleaning it could fix it, I had assumed something more fatal had happened. I haven't been using it very long yet.
I will do some research into how to clean it, or replace it.

Encoders, a commonly used component in many synths, can be cleaned and/or replaced. One does not need to replace a whole unit or synth due to one erratic encoder. There are cleaners that are good and cleaners to be avoided for encoders....but I don't know which to advise for you....if there is no past message in the message archive with a successfully cleaning, also can search the Emu Command Station, Yamaha A4000 or Emu P2K, or others that use encoders with "jumping" problems....
