They can get weird and the caps can be the issue.
I found suitable metal replacements on a nVidea Video card and fix a very fussy one that way. You can also get them at Mouser.com
It had intermittent to down usd and mind of their own"auto mixing" encoders - that's always fun.......
It's all good now.

Subject: [bc2000] USB mode not working. capacitor 1 blew.

Date: Sunday, May 19, 2013, 11:53 PMyesterday i've got a bcr2000 from a friend. unit is fine, i have programmed several presets for controlling reason/rebirth in mac os9 using midi interfaces, so standalone modes are ok.
the problem is this:
when i try to use usb modes, the usb light in the front panel is off. if change presets the light goes on, but the device is not detected by the computer.
i've tried different cables, different ports, different computers, and operating systems.
today i opened the bcr and noted that capacitor 1 (C1) in the power supply board has a swelling top (it's not blown nor leaked).
could this cap be the responsible of the usb problem? I don't have a tester to make the proper measurements.
please excuse my primal english, i speak spanish.
BCR2000 v1.10 tested in Mac OS9 (9.2.2), OSX Leopard (10.5.8) and Windows 7 (32 bit)
thanks in advance
paquito.
