Re: BCR & Ableton set-up - what the deuce?!

2013-05-21 by patgoodfellow

Good stuff.... it's nice to be able to give something back to a forum for a change.

Last night I played with Kips file:

http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/bc2000/files/Presets/Abeton%20Live%20Mackie%20Presets/

This also handles Device parameters very well. I discovered a function to switch through banks of 8 parameters at a time. So for example, on the EQ8 you can switch from Gain settings ( all 8 ) to frequency settings (all 8).. etc... If anyone is interested it's the very bottom left encoder that switches between banks. The 8 encoders above, control the selected Device parameters.

One thing I didn't mention... but it's included in Kips instructions anyway... You must select MackieControl for the BCR in Ableton's preferences.

One thing I've tried and failed so far is to get MidiTools (mountain Utilities) to Display the MackieControl LCD emulation. I think I might be missing a step here... like using something like MidiYoke... I dunno. This apparently makes it easier to see what's going on with device parameters. If anyone has any tips on getting this set-up - that'd be appreciated.

The BCR is sending data because ableton does respond on some random parameters (although in no logical sense that I've figured out yet) but not responding according to the way Mappings are set-up with the Ablton template (I checked the 'Control Surface Reference' help file in Ableton)

(I do have the Analog device selected with the little blue hand)

I've done this already and the lights on the BCR spin around like you would expect, but then at the last moment I get an Er22 error message.. So I presume the dump failed?? I've tried 2 usb cables and 2 different usb ports on my computer - same thing.
