How I did this in Linux was to realize the main thing I wanted Marks tool for was panel editing. So I didnt worry about USB but instead just edit, save sysex, then use a different tool to load sysex to the BCR.
You may want to trial if this works for you.

I was feeling a bit bitter about the world today until I saw your kind responses. Thanks for that. Yes, I did try running bcmanager through Wine, but it cannot detect the unit, probably due to a usb midi driver or something like that. John, so you're saying that I can use os x to run vmware, to run linux, to run wine to run the windows version of bcmanager? That sounds like quite a lot! When you use sysex librarian, what port do you choose for the bcr? Does it make a difference if you choose port 1, 2, or 3?
