Yes, mapping it manually works fine, it isn't too bad for one or two VSTs, but it would be good to learn how to do it automatically (or even semi-automatically), I don't have Max yet, but the thread below looks promising, it seems that Live can auto-map up to 128 parameters via snapshot. Does that make sense?
