It sounds like hardware.
First step is to always replug all the connectors.
It is mounted in a socket and then has hot glue applied, but perhaps it has come loose.
The hot glue is brittle and will just chip off.

In the file section there is a guide opening the unit and getting off the sides (they have locking tags that you need to slide a steel ruler against to unlatch)
