new BCR Mackie Emu with 16 vPots uploaded!

new BCR Mackie Emu with 16 vPots uploaded!

2008-09-10 by stefan_soundstudies

Hi fellows,

i just finished my new BCR-Mackieâ€"Setup for Live, with a nice new
trick (imho), that gives me another set of 8 vPots!

So now I can use two plugins at once, or two different pages of plugin
parameters at once, and all that without any needed routing.

How this works?.... just read on ...

If you ever have used your BCR in Live assigned as “BCR 2000”, not as
mackie control, than you know about the usage of the “device
parameters”. (these are always instantly connected to the currently
selected device)

I copied those ‘device parameter’ encoders to our beloved
“BCR2000+Live_ver4_1” preset, and therefor kicked out some Mackie
functions that I don’t need really often.

Whereas you have to press at least 3 ‘mackie’-buttons to route the
vPots to any plugin, you have just to select(by mouseclick) any plugin
to have the 2nd row of vPots routed to that plugin.

Since these parameters are called ‘device parameters’ in live, I will
call our 2nd row of pots “dPots” from now on.

The plugin-parameters are assigned over different pages for the dPots
in the same way as you allready know it from the standard mackie
emulation, and i made an encoder that selects the pages for the dPots
....

more info inside 'readme.pdf' inside 'bcr_live_MCE_16v.rar'
which you can find at the files section/presets

also included is a nice overlay...
so maybe have a look

(the overlay is just a customized version from Magos cool BCF overlay)

Awesome!

I can't wait to try it out!
I like the idea of combining the two.

@kip

btw. have a look a the 'returns' button,
i modified it not to send a note on standard msg.,
but customized it to send custom msg 'note on' with 'toggle on'

that way you just have to press the button once to switch from
channels to returns, and that LED always shows the correct value,
(on if returns are currently selected, off if they aren't)

Stefan,

Excellent work!
I have only tried the 16v version yet.
I love that click on the pluging then control it!
You have extended the control possibilities and made a great hybrid!

The returns button works great!
I always wanted it to work like that... I knew I had to have that note
on and another note on for it really to work, somehow I forgot we
could program buttons just about any way we wanted.
Great solution!

This is a very well done!
I might change the layout slightly (personal preferences) ... but
there is the magic of bcmanager!

1 thing, very small, you have the record icon over the loop button on
the overlay.

I like your vpot resolutions too, good choices!

Nice job, I like it!

Do you want me to put it up on my site for the bcr?

Re: new BCR Mackie Emu with 16 vPots uploaded!

hi kip,

thanks for your words, i'm happy that you like it.
It was not that much work, because you & mago and the other guys here
allready made the most of it!
and thanks to your sharing, i really had a very fast'kickstart' with
my bcr ;)

of course you can upload the files and any of your modifications to
your site, np
(i'm not sure if i've allready been to your site, so please let me
know the link)

i just have sighted another little mistake in my '2nd' version,
i'll correct that issue and the overlay and upload an updated version
these days.

if mago agrees, i'll include the overlay as illustrator file also, so
everybody may have easy 'finetuning' & personalisation of it.

currently i'm trying to push things up another level:
i try to program a 2nd display for the 2nd row of vpots...

i'm not sure if i'll be successful, but here is the idea:
in ableton we can have two remotes that have a display, one is the
mackie, the other is the novation remote sl.

if we tell ableton that we use both of them, then ableton sends
display infos for both.

since both of these remotes use the same controllers for some
different functions, there has to be some kind of 'midi
router'/splitter between bcr and live.

so all sent MIDI goes to the mackie, except the dPots CC and their
page select CC, that should go to the novation.

since both devices are more ore less 'hardcoded' in ableton to
transmit on ch 1, the router has to adress different MIDI ports to
make this work

i'll keep you updated, as soon a there is more progress.

cheers & have a nice sunday,
stefan

Stefan,

I have the source code for Huskervu, done in C#.
I don't have the chops to deal with it tho.

Here is my bcr2000 site.
http://shoshin.110mb.com/genmce/bcr2000/index.htm

"Not that much work" ...
Well - my work was based on Nahamai from a while back.
We all build on each other's work and we get our tools working better
and better. My only innovation was the knobs as buttons and adding
resolution to the vpots and faders.

Your synthesis of the two bcr2000 device and the MCE is very efficient.

My goodness, I love those "dPots"!
I like using those much better than the vpots for plugin control.
It is just click and you are tweaking. If I have my right hand on
mouse and left hand on bcr2000 it is nice.
I still have not tried the second version yet.

I did build Genmce also from Synthedit.
A generic midi controller to mackie control emulation.
http://shoshin.110mb.com/genmce
I started working on that before I had a bcr2000.
I can do some chan changing with that.
I could set up a stand alone vst that will filter the notes.
I could also set up a chan changing vst if necessary. Or we could use
Savihost to do it.
Not sure what I am saying here...
I just reread you description.
Maybe we need to discuss further... perhaps take it off board.
Email me.

I don't have illustrator, any suggestions on a free version of this?

Kip

Kip and anyone else interested,

Re: Illustrator, you might try GIMP. It's an open-source (freeware) graphics tool that has tons of features. I work in technical publications and it has many fans there. There are Linux and Windows versions. Not sure if it does vector graphics though.

It might do it?
I don't know.

yep,

someone mentioned it there
(http://www.hilfdirselbst.ch/foren/gforum.cgi?do=bookmark_set;post=366050;)
that inkscape is at least able to open *.ai illustrator files as well
as pdfs

give it a try

About Stefan_soundstudies and his "double-line" LCD display for DPots+ VPots

2016-05-08 by dean940@...

Yes guys i know this is a very old post but it's very interesting so i think it deserves a revival. (keep reading).

Thank you Flipotto/GenMce/k5kip_1999 (same guy right?) for sharing that Youtube video showing the BCR2000 acting as a MCU. Yes, —for new readers— it's possible emulate the BCR2000 as a MCU and that is completely configurable with BC Manager. Since i saw the video —a couple years ago actually— i've read a lot of Huskervu, BC Manager, MCUs and related stuff. I finally endup reading here the "Bcr_Live_ver5_0a.pdf" and wow man, that's a very nice pdf.

Any ideas about mr Stefan_soundstudies and his "double-line" LCD display for DPots+ VPots (ie DevicePots* + Vpots), it would be nice to test the beta version described on the pdf. See attached image. Btw i use Live9* and Cubase5.

Thank You again.
