my BCF2000 stopped working with Sonar5

my BCF2000 stopped working with Sonar5

After spending way too much time searching the web I got my Behringer
BCF2000 working with Sonar 5 in Mackie Control emulation mode.

It was working great for a few months and I was very happy with it
but now has stopped working. Here's what happens:

When I start Sonar the control surface toobar status window just
says "Connecting..." (not sure what it said when it was working)

When I then open an existing or new project the MIDI activity monitor
in the taskbar begins showing a constant stream of MIDI output
(sucking up CPU). If I remove the control surface the MIDI output
stops.

I can reproduce the issue without the BCF2000 by adding a Mackie
Control surface pointing to my MPU midi out (with no device out
there). My guess is that Sonar is sending a "Connecting" command to
the control surface and waiting for a response. Since it's not
getting the responce it keeps sending the command, hence the constant
MIDI output stream.

If this is the case, why did my BCF2000 stop responding to the
message?

I've tried all the typical stuff - rebooting (PC and BCF2000),
reinstalling drivers, etc. I've upgraded the BCF2k firmware to 1.10.
I've tried using a MIDI connection instead of USB. No luck. Get the
same stream out MIDI out from Sonar (the MIDI In light on the BCF
flashes constantly). I've tried different deviceIDs, USB modes, etc.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

FIX IT!

As I thought I has screwed up the Mackie Control properties (think I
pressed the Configure Layout button and screwed something up). I went
to C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared Surfaces and renamed the
MackieControl.ini to MackieControl_old.ini so it would be ignored. I
then restarted Sonar and it worked.
