intro and a couple of ?s

2005-08-14 by J D

Hello everyone.
Ive just joined the group so hi - not sure how active it is...
anyhow ive 2 questions:
1. ive wiped tthe os off by bcr. i think i need to transfer it back via midi. so that means usb to my pc and midi into the bcr yes?
2. i want to reconfigure all of the presets to use with reason 3.0. does anyone have any experience of doing this. if so, any pointers would be really cool.
cheers,
JD

hello!

the answer to your first question is that you need to send the data to
the bcr via a midi cable plugged in to the bcr. the usb input on the
bcr won't work.

most pcs don't have a midi port for the other end, so you may need a
usb-midi converter. the exception would be if you have a synth with
midi output and usb input, or a soundcard with either a gameport or
midi ports. don't know why it's like this...

not sure about the second question, because i don't know how different
3 is to 2. but what i would do is find the controller changes (reason
documentation?), load the preset for reason 2 into the bcr graphical
editor, and change the parameters. you'll probably find that it's
mostly the same, but you may have to add a new preset for the new
modules that come with reason 3.

hope that helps!

updating the firmware to 1.10 via usb worked for me (win2k). but i'm
not able to save presets to the bcr. i get the following error

timeout error while sending "$rev R1" we are currently working on
"$rev R1"

and the application (0.2 beta 3) hangs. any ideas how to get this
working? (yes, after reading a few posts here i had the idea it might
only work via midi cable, but since i don't have one... maybe there is
some other solution)

driver is 1.1.1.1 btw

i actually don't know if there are usb <-> midi cables around.
i flashed my bcr2000 using windows 2000 with a simple
usb (bcr) <-> usb (pc) connection the other way would be a connection
midi in/out (bcr) <-> game port (pc)
the game port should be on the soundcard. in case you have one of the
nicer audio cards with midi connectors a normal midicable will work,
if you have to go through the game port you need a special cable (~4x
the price of a normal midi cable).
just found a picture:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v466/huniad/CAB1001_i.gif

but you should try the the usb <-> usb connection first.
worked fine for me and you wouldn't have to buy another cable

Re: [bc2000] solved: timeout error while sending "$rev R1" [b-control series editor]

2005-08-27 by J D

may try that. can you tell me where to dload previous versions? cant see any at java.com.
Also, for anyone who is still having firmware upload probs, if your usb connection is not working on the br side, then youll need a usb->midi converter cable, which will cost around $50.

for the record:

the solution is pretty simple. i was using the latest java version (as
advised in the editor's manual) jre (1.)5.0_04. after a downgrade to
jre 1.4.2_08 it works fine for me.

simple google search for jre 1.4.2_08 finds the file and it works!

so back to configuring the unit.

i can load presets into the bcedit editor, make changes and then
upload back to the brc (i assume thats whats happening at least as
all display unit shows activity).

but i just cant seem to see how the element details relate to what
actually happens with my soft synths and any changes i make in
bcedit dont seem to inpact on reason 3.0.

Ive even removed all the presets from my device config (BCR2000 1.07
ID:1) so there should be no config data available at all. yet bcr
and pc still talk as per the factory presets?

it must be beacause either another source of the config data is not
being modified by bcedit or the hardware unit isnt been permanently
updated by bcedit.

phew. hope that make sense! any advice would be cool - should get
there in the end i think but hopefully all this is of interest to
others.

[bc2000] reason 3.0 & presets (was: Re: solved: timeout error while sending "$rev R1" [b-control series editor] )

the presets are inside reason 3.0. check the following link for the
part about "native mode" http://www.flintnt.com/REVIEWS/BCF2000.htm .
i have no idea if it is possible to turn this off completely, but if
you do _not_ select a sequencer track, you are able to map encoders to
knobs on various instruments at the same time. i don't know if this is
a reason-only-thingy or if you can edit presets within the unit and
get them to work in reason without using the remote override
functions though, something i'd also like to do but haven't had time
to play around with yet.
