User Defined LC/ Mackie Mode Preset

User Defined LC/ Mackie Mode Preset

2009-10-19 by PakT

Hi all,

I had enjoyed using the bcf in Logic Control mode for some time, but due to its lack of programmability, I've resorted to use/buy additional controllers for soft/hard synth editing. But in this way I'm selling the 32 presets short.

Suddenly I've thought about bringing over the LC sysex over to one or few of the presets in bcf preset mode, so I can easily browse other presets for synth/efx controls or other purposes. Holy, it WORKED!

There is also a huge advantage, if successfully implemented, in that you can design your own layout of the LC/Mackie control to your own liking!! So far (just today), I've successfully mapped LC buttons such as play/rec/stop, instrument toggle, plugin bypass, mute, solo, track select etc. What used to be commands that required holding a SHIFT, now I can push on ONE button and lay it out wherever I want!

But I have no luck at faders/encoders sysex yet, as I still don't understand how the string for a LC/Mackie sysex works. I tried to read everywhere but have found only little relevant info.

Here is what I've got so far, in Hex format:

90 68 7F E0 ?? ?? val ??
90 69 7F E1... 00?
90 6A 7F E2...
90 6B 7F E3...
90 6C 7F E4...
90 6D 7F E5...
90 6E 7F E6...
90 6F 7F E7...

where 90 seems to be LC's ID, 68-6F are fader numbers, 7F is fader touched, E0-E7 fader channels one...eight, and where 00 is a fader release message.

I am not sure what is the correct way of constructing a sysex string of this type. Hardware sysex consists of F0 and Val followed by F7 as an end. But it seems a LC sysex doesnt use that at all. So, the questino is how would you make a variable value fader/encoder sysex on LC/Mackie?

With some work, I hope the LC/Mackie functions can be ported over to a user BCF/R preset so that we all can enjoy it in better layout and in conjunction with other presets for other applications!

Maybe eventually we can put up a document of custom sysex strings for each LC/Mackie commands so that all of us can enjoy freely assignable LC/Mackie buttons knobs and faders!!!

I'm running late, so I'll put up the sysex for other buttons for you guys soon.

Hopefully it'll all work! :)

It's very nice that Art Hunkins had already done this for MCU!! I had the file from this group, but since it says Mackie I have never tried it on my logic. I regret that I havent sooner, because it seems to work too!!

So now I'll be investigating more fine-tuning and stuffs that relates particularly to LC. It'd still nice if anyone can help in regards to programming sysex.. or the possibility of parameter feedback in User emulation presets etc..

Thanks in advance guys, the project looks hopeful!

Yeah - several have done work on mackie presets for the bcr and bcf.
I too have done extensive work with mackie emulation. (feedback works)
See http://shoshin.110mb.com/genmce/bcr2000/Presets/presets.htm
I also did genmce
http://shoshin.110mb.com/genmce/
a generic midi controller to mackie emulation - no fader feedback as well as work on FreeMce (see in that link) a computer keyboard to mackie controller emulation - sans midi controller (midi feedback working)

What do you want to know?
faders are pitch bends on midi channels 1 - 9, for tracks 1 thru 8 and 9 is a master fader.
email me if you have questions.

Hi guys,

I see some ppl were asking about using presets and MCU mode too in the few threads above this. You can use several MCU presets uploaded here as well as follow the Mackie Command List spreadsheet by Kip to program your own MCU. I will work on one myself and perhaps integrate some LC things in it.

Have fun guys!
