capturing ableton's manual maps ?

2010-01-28 by alfredgrayuk

Hi I could really do with some help if any can!

Is there a way of capturing a Manual map in ableton so that it can be added as a preset to the bcr?

I'm hoping to be able to have preset that mirrors a manual map [as opposed to an 'instant' or 'native' map ] I entered in ableton (with the blue map function)

I'm guessing that ableton takes standard midi messages and uses its own bomes type program to interface midi with its own actions, so this stops me from using BC manager type programs as they only deal with standard midi messages right?

So I'm guessing I want a some way of converting a manual map to an custom 'instant or native' map so that i can then then use the dump function in ableton to send it to the BCR as a preset? Is there a way of doing this without editing ableton userscripts for the BCR in ableton by hand?

The first reason i want to do it this way is that when i try to map over existing presets or blank slots on the bcr, when playing with knobs i think there are some sliders etc in ableton that react to standard ccs, so when i move a knob or push the a button i move one parameter that the manual mapping says it should, but it also another element in ableton which i haven't mapped to the bcr control in ableton.

That's why i thought that if i could just dump the manual map i made to the bcr there wouldn't be any such 'cross mapping of controls' would wipe over all existing mapping.
[i noticed that when i move the the pots in the first column of the 2ns 3rd 4th rows, the led's in the sixth column mimic the led movement in the first column - does this indicate a link?]

Similarly the second reason is that i wanted to be able to swap between presets without having any unwanted triggering due the bcr having the send messages in both presets i.e. the cross mapping mention above.

hope that makes sense!

thanks in advance
