Newbie with problem on encoders

Newbie with problem on encoders

2010-03-22 by Richard

Ok I hope this is the right place to ask this question. I am using the BCf to control lighting through software called Daslight.

I am using the rotary encoders to activate individual cues. I have assigned the led ring to activate with each encoder push (toggle on)thereby showing me exactly where I am in the running order.

So all OK so far, I use the first eight encoders, then switch to the next group. All is Ok till I switch preset, as the encoder group remains in the 4th group setting until I press group 1 again.

this could make the operator acticvate the wrong cue at the wrong time.

So my question is, is there any way of auto resetting the encoder group as you change preset?

one other question. after running the show, apart from switching off the BCF is there another way of resetting all outputs to zero.?

Not as such, but I can think of two workarounds:

1.
If it's feasible in your situation, you might consider using only encoder group 1: then you still have 32 presets you can scroll through.
(In fact, you could then use a second (backward) sequence all under encoder group 2, etc.)

2.
In each preset you can define the number of encoder groups used, from 1 to 4. (Actually you can't set this on the BCF itself; you'll have to use an external editor like BC Manager to set these values.)
You can use this feature to your advantage, by defining "dummy" presets between your "regular" presets, where each dummy preset only uses ONE encoder group (and doesn't define any buttons, encoders or faders).
So for instance you can put your regular presets in presets 1 and 3, and define preset 2 as a dummy. Then when you scroll from preset 1 to 2, the selected encoder group's light goes out, and when you then scroll to preset 3, you're always in group 1, no matter what group you were in in preset 1.

I think this came up a few weeks ago. See the mesage thread with subject "BCR2000: Reset Preset".

Hope this helps,
   Mark.

I have searched the whole topic for "BCR2000 Reset preset " and not found anything, can you give me a more accurate thread. thank you.

Just to be clear on this point: I was talking about the thread starting with message #2803:
http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/bc2000/message/2803

I thought the issue raised there was what you were talking about too; if not, please let me know.

Best wishes,
Mark.
