BCR2000 & automation in Cubase

BCR2000 & automation in Cubase

2010-07-31 by mollekula

hi guys, ive been experimenting with automation in my Cubase SX3 all day today. automation record works perfectly when i move VST or VSTi plugin faders and knobs manually with my mouse, but to my disappointment i could not manage to do the same with my BCR2000 MIDI controller. the weird part is that i tweak the plugin knobs with my controller and i can hear the sound alter, but the automation bars of the parameters that i change stay still. ive also noticed that the value of the parameter being altered is not changing either despite the fact that the knob i tweak rotates and alters the sound. ive tried everything, automation with mouse works just fine but it dsnt work with the controller. ive been diggin thru Cubase preferences but didnt want to change anything cause i dont want to mess things up. the manual i read does not mention anything about controller and automation and im stuck. could someone who knows how to do this shed some light and tell me what exactly i should do to make this work or post a link for such a guide? there are some interesting noise/ambient stuff i want to experiment on and this obstacle keeps me away from this. thanx in advance

Hi
I haven't got SX3 myself, but my instinct is that you should be able to do what you're trying to achieve.
there's a guy who has posted a link to a generic BCR2000 preset which might be what you need (about half way down)

ok, i figured it out myself. the R and W buttons should have been enabled on MIDI track to be automated as well, instead of enabling R and W on VST Instruments track of the MIDI, Olga in this case. as you can see in the picture, the blue automation bar for these two parameters, filter resonance & filter cutoff frequency that is, are still on VST Instruments track, thats where i got tricked initially, because these two bars were moving when i was tweaking these knobs with my mouse and i thought its the same automation place via MIDI controller as well.

but thanx for the link, im going to check it now

If you are using the bcr2000 in generic remote mode watch the flag "No Automation" on the wanted parameters/controllers in the lower configuration window from the Devices->Devices Setup->Remote Device->generic remote window. My cubase is in spanish and the menu names may be diferent I translate them (maybe badly, sorry for my poor english)
Hope this may help....
