Is there any difference between programming push encoders and classic buttons?

Is there any difference between programming push encoders and classic buttons?

I've been working on a custom cubase 5 template for the "generic remote" in cubase devices (in short, a custom template for controlling cubase). I've used NRPN and assigned most of the commands and they work well. The classic buttons work fine, but when trying to assign a command to a push encoder (1st row, using encoder groups) it doesn't work! I tried using NRPN or CC, but nothing. The same commands work fine when using classic buttons, but I need them on the encoders. Please help anyone with some advanced midi knowledge.. what am I doing wrong?

I'm not a Cubase user, so I can't help you specifically.
The problem could be on the BCF/R's side or on Cubase's side.
First you should check whether your BCF/R's encoder definitions actually send the intended MIDI messages. (E.g. under Windows you can use BC Manager's MIDI input monitoring window, or you can use MIDI-OX.)
If that seems to work, the problem may lie with Cubase.

Hope this helps (a bit...),
Mark.
