Hi, Can anybody who has opened up one of the bcr2000 tell me if the encoder can be moved to create a different layout. Cheers

I saw a project (which I can't find now) where someone had desoldered all encoders and attached them as a tactile overlay on top of a tft screen. Pretty awesome. But yes they are soldered into a pcb, if that is what you wanted to know. The top row is on a separate pcb which could potentially be moved in relation to the others. /m

For a Custom controller- this might be a better bet.... http://www.doepfer.de/de.htm 85 Euro universal electronics DIY kit to built your own MIDI control box with 16 rotary encoders. --- In bc2000@yahoogroups.com, Martin Klang <mars@...> wrote:

Looking at their site ... most of the pots (you have to buy them extra) appear to be 7bit? Did you find any 14 bit ones that they do? Would be nice to know what SDK they have too. I still maintain touch screens are pretty cool controllers nowadays. Nice windows 7/linux tablet, iPad or Android. All the SDKs exist for controlling midi (not so sure about iPad ... most of the commercial offerings suggest they cant do midi in ?). Another limitation of the doepfer board is that it doesn't provide any indicator leds as the bcr2000 does. I make something called a blipbox [1]: large, resistive touchscreen, configurable into several zones which may be sliders, buttons or whatnot. Still, there's a lot to be said for tactile feedback - real knobs and sliders that your fingers can feel. And for the price, behringer have squeezed an awful lot into the 2000 series: loads of high resolution encoders with LED feedback and programmable functionality. Too bad the build quality isn't better. The touchscreen approach has other advantages, like being able to control several parameters (e.g. a 4-way crossfader) with a single gesture, or the ability to 'draw' an EQ curve, envelope or waveform. And you don't get the same stepping problems as with encoders - or at least there are ways to avoid them. There are devices like the Missing Link [2], which connects e.g. an iPhone with a midi device wirelessly. Nice concept, but with that many layers between touch and sound I can't help but think that latency and flakiness will be a constant problem. cheers, [1] http://blipbox.org [2] http://www.schneidersladen.de/en/jabrudian-industries-the-missing-link-2

Just wanted to chime in about the ipad. They do definitely do midi both ways. Over wi-fi or via the camera connection kit (basically a USB port). Check out "touch osc" and loads of others. Kieran Fitzpatrick
