Midi Yolk installation and setup... questions!?!

Midi Yolk installation and setup... questions!?!

2012-04-26 by daz303@rocketmail.com

OK... I'm sure everyone's had enough of these questions by now but we're almost finished...

So far:
Uninstalled and reinstalled drivers, controllers and BC manager ... Loaded the Mackie Control Emulation v5.0a
Gave everything a quick test and all hardware/software are getting on like champions and happily talking to each other.
I can control all the parameters in Ableton 8 via the emulated MCE as per the docs supplied with the v5.0a download.

Now:
I've just installed Midi Yoke so I can get those Mackie Monitors up and running... and so the questions start.

I cant locate Huskervu anywhere. Midi Tools said it has some form of "Huskervu-ish" Mackie Monitor display. I also noticed that BC Manager also has Mackie monitor displays in its pull down menu. Does it matter which you use? I'd prefer to go with the ones in BC Manager as I know that software is working.

Is there a step-by-step guide to configuring midi yoke for dumbos like me? I have read the manual (the BC Manager and Midi Yoke manual) and can't make heads or tails from some of what I read. Specifically, what settings should I have for the midi I/O in BC Manager and Ableton... I had a quick look and there are now all sorts of references (16 I think) to Midi Yoke in the pull down menus and I dont know what to do now.... I really need someone to go through this with me.... I understand what midi yoke is trying to do but Im confused as to how I have to set it up.

I think it's a home run after this.... fingers crossed.

Any help or suggestions as always is very appreciated.

Once this is out the way i can think about tuning up my guitar!!!!

This message might help a bit:

For me it works like this (under Windows 7, 64-bit):

I put the BCF in "MC C" emulation mode (I'm not sure how using a preset would affect things, but the general procedure should be the same).

In Live's Preferences dialog box, I define the BCF as follows:
Control Surface: Mackie Control (I'm not sure if this is optimal)
Input: "2- BCF2000"
Output: "Out To MIDI Yoke: 1"
(So the idea is to make Live send its output (particularly the Mackie display messages) to MIDI Yoke 1.)

Then, in BC Manager or MIDI Tools, in the main window I go to Options -> MIDI devices:
a. Under Input I enable "In From MIDI Yoke: 1"
b. Under Output I enable "2- BCF2000"
c. With Output device "2- BCF2000" selected, I select "In From MIDI Yoke: 1" as "Thru input device". (This is necessary to pass on the messages that Live sends to MIDI Yoke 1 to the BCF.)

Then, still in BC Manager's/MIDI Tools' main window, I open View -> MIDI -> Mackie monitors -> 1.
This opens a window called "Mackie monitor 1: In From MIDI Yoke: 1".
In this window I right-click and set "MIDI input port" to "In From MIDI Yoke: 1".

Moving fader 1 on the BCF then leads to movement of the corresponding fader in Live, and the Mackie window in BC Manager/MIDI Tools changes accordingly.
(Strangely, the Mackie window does NOT update when I move the fader in Live; I'm not sure why, but I've noticed the same pattern of behavior in Propellerhead Reason, so apparently that's how these programs work.)

Hope this helps,
Mark.
