Midi setup - kawai k4r + bcr2000

2012-12-15 by whousesthisshit

Hello dear group,

Im trying to figure out a way to hook up both units but nothing seems to work. Im not sure im using the right midi mode on the bcr2000. My plan is to use it this way:

Ensoniq esq1 (as my master key controller) > BCR2000 > Kawai K4R

Any ideas on how I should route this!? Thanks a lot!

If I understand your intention correctly, you want to merge the Ensoniq's output and the BCR's output.

Then (if I'm reading the flowcharts correctly) you should set the BCR's Operating Mode to S-1, S-2 or S-3: in S-1 the receiving device (i.e. your Kawai) can be at MIDI OUT A or B, in S-2 and S-3 it must be at MIDI OUT A.

None of the U-modes offer this type of merging.
(Actually in U-4 MIDI IN and the BCR's output ARE merged, but the merged signal is only sent to the computer (via USB), so you'd have to route this signal back to the BCR's MIDI OUT A or B via a "soft-through" performed by software on the computer, which is probably needlessly complicated).

Hope this helps,
Mark.
