Testing SY22 for single parameter sysex

Testing SY22 for single parameter sysex

2013-01-22 by Royce

Hi,
I am trying to create a new preset and PC program for the Yamaha TG33 and SY22.
I only have a TG33 but I have read that the SY22 cannot respond to single parameter like the TG33 but the info is a bit vague.

Plompy Software's editor sends the whole patch sysex each time a parameter is changed and perhaps, along with the fact that the SY22 manual says nothing about the parameter sysex, this is where the idea came from.

Here is a BC2k patch that has the top row of encoders putting out the parameter sysex for the TG33
Enc1 to 4 are wave selection for Elements A to D. Enc5 to 8 are volume (Yamaha reverses the numbers so 127 is the softest) for Elements A t D.

http://f1.grp.yahoofs.com/v1/MHH-UHWcQcYYF9HF19Ui-VQ-PMUOWBcM9F1Kij8mu3jkrjtyAWvREzNuSJbJSX7HaEhwDdb6vxuO9MKVDcL-WA/Presets/SY22%20test.zip

I was wondering if some one with a SY22 could test this BCR2k preset for me and let me know if it works for the SY22.

The zip file has both a .syx and BC2 file in it.

I can't get the TG33 to put out a patch change message when you change a patch on the unit.
This means my program won't have any idea that it needs to request data to keep in sync.

So if the SY22 can't respond to single parameters I might cut my losses and move onto another synth instead .

Thanks for the help.

Royce

As someone with a TG-33 I'd like to see this work out! :)

Hi Mike,

So would I, but I am finding that despite the vector synthesis the TG33 doesn't like a stream of sysex for real time control.

It keeps, at best, pausing, at worst, locking up even when the data stream is thinned.

I must say that I love the sounds, but I am disappointed with the midi implementation in the Vector synths.

Someone (my iPad deleted the email for some reason) kindly let me know that the SY22 and SY35 don't accept parameter sysex only bulk dumps.

This means that the preset would be exclusively for the TG33 and the TG33 doesn't work so well.
So I have decided to abandon the vector synths and move on to the Roland synths I have.

All the best

oh well! that's too bad. I've had my tg33 for six months or so but haven't had a chance to really spend some time with it yet

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
