No CC or LEARN output on Encoder Groups buttons?

No CC or LEARN output on Encoder Groups buttons?

2013-11-24 by Leon Blakey

Is there a way to have the encoder groups send some sort of MIDI or LEARN output when pressed, preferably in addition to switching the groups?

This would be useful as I can switch the tab in my software to whatever the encoders in the group are changing. Eg group 1 shows looping controls on screen + top encoders control looping functions, group 2 shows effects on screen + top encoders control effect features, etc

Configuring the encoder group buttons like any other standard button doesn't give any output. I'm familiar with adding in LEARN output on the preset buttons, but don't know how to apply that to encoder groups.

Is this possible?

The group buttons either swap the top row encoder/buttons OR can output a Midi message.

When you say 'my software' , is this software you are writing?

If so, forget about getting the BC to swap groups, do it in software.

I hate to mention it again, but on my website www.bwalk.com.au there is a setup for a Yamaha TQ5 which is a 4 operator synth.

As each operator is same, I use CC messages on the top row encoders as well as the buttons.

These are send to my program and I output the sysex messages to the synth.

I get the group buttons to output CC messages to id themselves so I know what Operator I am controlling.

This way I can group the two rows of buttons as well as the top encoders and select which operator I am changing by pressing the group button. So you can think of the buttons and encoders as a page of controls.

You can easily extend this to any of the right switches, each one giving you a group/page.

You can extend it again by making the other 1, 2 or 3 rows of encoders part of the page as well.

In short just set the BC up with different CC messages on each encoder and button that your program intercepts and converts to something meaningful for your looper

.

If you are not writing the software, think about having consecutive presets and using the "<" and ">" instead of the group buttons.

You can have up to 32 presets.

When you change to a new preset you can get the BC to output a sysex message.

The downside is that if you only want to change the top encoders leaving the other controls to have the same midi message on each preset you are in trouble.

Each control in each preset has its own value and remembers it even when you change preset.

So, although you may have the same midi messages programmed into the same encoder/button on consecutive presets, the value is likely to be different when you change preset.

All the best

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
