New Mountain Utilities website launched!

New Mountain Utilities website launched!

2013-11-21 by <markwinvdb@...>

Hi everyone!

This is to let you know that the Mountain Utilities website has moved to:
http://mountainutilities.eu

This new website does not just contain BC and BCN Manager and the info documents that used to be at the old Mountain Utilities site, but is fully interactive.

For instance:

The new site has a B-Control forum, where you can discuss anything related to the BCF2000, BCR2000 and BCN44.
More specifically, from now on this new forum is the official support site for BC and BCN Manager, so please go there for any questions.

The new site also has an upload area for B-Control presets and BC Manager's SysEx model definition files - in fact anything related to the BCF/BCR2000 and BCN44.

So I'm looking forward to meeting you at the new Mountain Utilities website!

Mark van den Berg.

You might want to tweak the colors. I cannot read your business name at the top very well at all. Maybe it's just my eyes or it is my monitor but it's really hard to see for me. One mans opinion.

I am moving my files to my web site www.bwalk.com.au and I have joined Mark's site.
In a short while I will surrender the assistant admin of this group and just hang out at MtUtil.

All the best

Hi Alan,

Thanks for reporting this!

You mean the white letters of "Mountain Utilities" (and the motto) on the orange background?

It looks fine on my monitor, but it might indeed be different on monitors with other color temperatue settings.

Of course I can darken the background a bit and/or lighten the letters, but before I do, can you check whether the new site (http://mountainutilities.eu/) is worse for you than the old site (http://home.kpn.nl/f2hmjvandenberg281/)?

The old site uses a single background color, the new site a top-to-bottom gradient, so that might be part of the problem.

That's better, but I think the letters with stand out if they had a thin black background or some other kind of shading to outline them. It would look more classy too. Other than that I forgot to tell you it's a good looking site pretty much all around.

RE: RE: Re: [bc2000] New Mountain Utilities website launched!

2013-11-22 by <markwinvdb@...>

In the announcement of my new website I concentrated on the basic facts:
- "I have a new site, which has a forum and an upload area"
- "From now on, you must go to this new site for support of BC Manager"

But of course this announcement has significant consequences for this Yahoo group:
for a start, users of BC Manager (and the BCF/BCR/BCN in general) no longer need to become/stay members of this Yahoo group to get my support.

And now that Royce has decided to jump ship too, this Yahoo group's future suddenly seems bleak, since many of the questions used to be answered by Royce or me.

But of course it's up to each one of you to decide whether you want to stay at Yahoo or come to my new site, or do both.

If it helps, I would be happy to allow any files to be copied/moved from the Yahoo Files section to my new site.
(I'm not sure if we'd be morally/legally obliged to obtain every contributor's permission for this; if so, that would be impractical.)

Another issue is of course the Yahoo group's message archive.
Transferring this "as is" seems impractical/impossible, but I could at least make the complete message archive of the last six years available at my site, e.g. as a zipped mail folder or a pdf file.

I'm open to any opinions and suggestions.

Mark.

Absolutely great idea to migrate from Yahoo groups!
The BCR & BCF might be 'golden oldies' but that doesn't justify the fact
the community needs to resort to a prehistoric yahoogroup as well.
An 'archive' section for old conversations is an excellent idea to keep
all valuable information intact yet a new platform with more
functionality and a more friendly GUI is much meeded.

Your shading idea turned out to be very good:
I've now added a gray shadow to the site name; this indeed looks more classy; hopefully it's also more legible.

Secondly, I've turned the slogan into dark gray.

Hopefully these changes alleviate your problem, so I've left the orange background gradient alone for now.

Thanks!
Mark.
