bcf2000 dead?

bcf2000 dead?

2014-08-12 by russ@...

g'day - i'm new here, and i am here as a volunteer tech, not a user. Our church's BCF2000 died mid-service. It's used as a lighting controller..

It seems completely dead, no sign of life at all. Is this known issue? I was hoping it may have been a simple power supply issue, but that seems to be ok - at least, it looks ok, and seems to have 5v and 2 5.6 volt rails, which seem to correspond to what i can see of the circuit.

Is a schematic available anywhere? Or any hints?

thanks in advance.

Hi Russell
Sorry to hear about the dead BCF.
Here is a tear down pdf. but I guess you might already be there.
Here is a tech page that may be useful.
I don't know of an available cct diag. but standard procedure is to re-plug connectors and any socketed chips.
You have checked the power rails, check that it is the same on all boards.
Look for any leaky caps and any electros that have their tops popped.
The failure mode you describe is most likely a loose lead or EPROM chip and I hope it is as simple as that.
All the best
Royce

Well, it was that simple. I pulled it down, checked the psu voltages, I
found some. I found a soldered joint that may have been suss, probably
wasn't, so I resoldered that. Plugged it together and got action!

Thanks for the links.
