bcf or bcr?

bcf or bcr?

2005-11-10 by rob_cueto

hi.

i am thinking of picking up a midi controller for software (audition)
but i am torn between the bcf and the bcr.

by the looks of it, it seems there are more options that you could do
with the bcr because they have 24 knobs as compared to the 8 faders.
the question i have is, can you have assigned functions on faders,
knobs and button and then by the press of a button have a whole new
set of functions...so on and so forth.

if this is possible, then the additional knobs is not really an issue
because you can have multiple presets each time you press a button to
change them.

anyone know?

Hi
on the BCF only the top row of 8 knobs/8buttons are reassignable - they can have 4 functions each. (However, if you run it in Mackie emulation mode EVERY button has 3 functions. Though you can't edit them yourself!)
i believe that, although the BCR has more knobs, it too is limited to only the top row of 8 knobs/8buttons being reassignable - though you need to check on this, as i don't own one.
Good luck

can you switch from mode to mode with a press of a button to access
different functions quickly?

There are 4 buttons, each of which represents a "group".
e.g. when button 1 is pressed the top row of 8 knobs and 8 buttons have one set of functions (as assigned by the user)....say knob 3 is a panning knob
when button 2 is pressed the top row of 8 knobs and 8 buttons have ANOTHER set of functions .......eg. knob 3 is now scrub wheel.
Make sense?

yeah ok, so you essentially have 64 assignable controls ((8 knobs + 8
buttons) x 4 = 64 )

is it that easy? say i have my first button set as "zoom in" and then
if i press button 2, the first button then becomes "remove clip" ? if
so, im going to pick one of these bad boys up asap.

im probably leaning towards getting the bcr because of the other
preassigned knobs (more functions taken care of)compared to the 8
faders of the bcf. however, if you guys have other opinions please
share them.

i used a bcr as my primary controller for about 12 months before finally getting a bcf to go along with it. the bcr worked really well with cubase; i had a few

Yeah...youve got it! Go buy one.....
I like my BCF as i want faders to work in my sequencer Cubase SX. Just depends on your own needs....for soft synths the BCR would make more sense.
Also, the BCR is alot cheaper now....you can pick them up for about \ufffd87 as opposed to \ufffd120 for the BCF.
Enjoy!
