BCF powering up issues / USB port

BCF powering up issues / USB port

2016-06-27 by Joel Saunders

Hi all,

My second hand BCF2000 is starting to be a hassle turning on. it 'seems' to be connected to the USB port. When I wriggle the USB cable (or prop it up with a screwdrive/bit of tape to get the angle right) it will power on.

I opened it up, and eveything looks fine. i was thinking to resolder the USB port or something, but nothing seemed strange. but it is really annoying. i'm touring next week, and last rehearsal it took 40 minutes to turn it on.

i can usb MIDI so i don't have to worry about the USB bumping it on/off - but surely there is a solution. because the encoders and really slow i've been using a ULS electrolube to clean them, which may be an issue?

thanks.
Joel

When you say nothing seems strange - have to looked at how the USB socket is on the PCB? Check your cable if all is OK with the socket.

The not turning on issue is there with or without the USB cable plugged in - just plugging the cable in (and putting pressure/the angle right can be a 'fix'.

As far as things looking good, no obvious dry solder joints or what have you.

RE: [bc2000] Re: BCF powering up issues / USB port

So it sounds like the solder at the internal mount point of the USB socket
on the mainboard has failed?

May need to carefully open up the unit, see if bypassing with some test
wires "cures" the problem - if so then you will need to carefully resolder.

This happened to me with PC (the one I am using now in the garage). The
front socket must have got snagged. If I angled the input just right, things
would work.

In the end I had to solder some jumper wires to the 4 inputs (+. -, data1,
data2) and all was well.

Others will probably chime in with their suggestions - all I know is one
must be careful how to disassemble a BCR/F - some nice instructions on the
site somewhere.

Hi,
I have seen this problem a couple of times and have cured it by resoldering the components and connections on the power board because of the way the boards are soldered it is easy for component to have cracked the solder between it and the printed circuit, they are extremely difficult to see, take care and re wet the solder joints and it should solve the problem, my own was a second hand dead unit that just needed resoldering.
Hope that helps

I had to rebuild the power supply, just the caps and its been good for years, not too complicated of a job.
