DX7 Preset

DX7 Preset

2008-02-13 by rpcfender

Hi all (Alan in particular),
I have downloaded my presets for the BCR and my DX7 to the files area.

It should give you a good start (if not the whole thing) in creating a preset for the TX7.
If it is different can you post your TX files as well.

Although my DX7 is the original version I think it should work (perhaps with minor adjustments) for the later DX's as well.

If anyone has a DXII please try it out and let the group know if it works.

I have the Robin Whittle upgrade (he lives down the street from me ) and I find that the DX will stop producing a sound each time a sysex message arrives. I assume this is true of all DX's , but if not please let me know.
Because of this I have set the $global parameter .txinterval to its max (100) to reduce the number of sysex messages coming through and causing a buzzing sound.
Unfortunately this means that the other presets in the BCR will have the number of MIDI messages reduced and this might cause jumping in values on other presets.
Feel free to adjust this and let me know what you this is best.
Robins update has a set of sysex messages for the additions, but I haven't included these.

It uses a lot of the techniques that have been written about here and so it could be of use to other people wanting to create presets for hardware using sysex.

I hope it is of use

Royce

Wow Royce,

This is incredibly thorough. Thanks, I'm sure, on behalf of all those other TX7 users out there whose machines will be unlocked by this amazing preset. Sadly it'll be one more reason not to turn my Atari ST on again, as that's what I used to use for editing.

There's just one thing I'm not clear about. I've only ever downloaded sysex presets to my BCR. Are these .BC2 files sent to the BCR in the same way, or have I missed something important (I am new to this list).

Thanks again,
Alan

Sorry, BC2 files are for my editor. I have a few comments that would
be lost if it was converted to sysex.

Download the scrip editor and load these files in and send them to the
BCR.
You can even save the downloaded file to the BCR from the editor.

If you would prefer sysex let me know and I'll convert and upload,
or you could simply load the BC2 file into the editor and save as
sysex files.

After you have played with presets for a while let me know how you
find the layout. You should be able to just replace the $encoder (or
$button) number with a different number to shift things around.

enjoy

Royce

Ah! Thanks for the clarification Royce. I've downloaded your script
editor as recommended, but I notice it's a PC only app. Unfortunately
I'm running on Mac OS X. Is there another way around this? If you
could convert it to sysex, I could certainly use that. Are the
comments that would be lost important to the running of it? I'd be
very keen to give it a road test if at all possible.

Cheers,
Alan

I have downloaded the sysex versions to the same files area for you.

The .BC2 files are just text and can be viewed by any text editor /
Word etc. The comments start with a ;

$encoder 3 ; Vol chan 2

for example.
$encoder 3 is the command part and Vol chan 2 is just a comment

I believe there are ways to run PC stuff on Max OS X.

Can any Mac user help out here????

All the best

Thanks Royce, that's great. Hopefully, I'll get a chance to test these out tonight.

Yes, there are commercial Windows emulators available for Macs, and the most recent Intel based Macs (i.e. not mine) can run dual systems. However, it would be a prohibitively expensive solution and the implementation of hardware buses (eg MIDI) isn't so reliable configured across emulations.

If the sysex works okay I'll be delighted.

Cheers for now,
Alan

Ooh, so cool!

I can't thank you enough Royce. It's so excellent to be able to tweak TX7 sounds on the fly, with proper knobs!. Even if FM synthesis does take a bit more getting your head round than regular subtractive stuff. I've only had time for a quick noodle just now, basically to see if it works on the TX. As I get more time I'll give you fuller feedback regarding any glitches or caveats I come across, but just for now it seemed absolutely perfect.

Thanks again. You're a star,
Alan

This is amazing. Thanks a lot Royce !

It's a real pleasure to tweak my TX7 on the fly.

You're my hero !
