BC editor and preset info: name, what happens with it?

BC editor and preset info: name, what happens with it?

2008-04-05 by herthert

Hi,

I just started using the bc editor that I have download from the Files
section. I just started to like it when I saw that after saving the
file and reopening the file the names of the presets were gone. Is
there a way to save the names and open the file again so next time you
can see what the function is of a certain controller or note etc.? I
know that you can save a table as a txt file but when you don't finish
a whole setup at once this isn't very helpful.

Can somebody clarify this please?

Thank you,

Herb

Just to avoid confusion: which editor are you talking about?
(There are quite a few around, nowadays...)

If it's indeed my own "BC Manager":
You should be aware that you can only reopen files you have saved via
the Save or Save As operation from the "B-Controls" window.
"Save table" from the presets window merely EXPORTS a table, which is
only meant for further external processing in e.g. a word processor:
you can't import that table file in BC Manager again.

I'll publish a complete manual in a few days, and also a new version
of BC Manager itself: that'll be version 1.1, not 1.0.1 as I announced
earlier - the improvements and additions have become much more
substantial than I anticipated!

Mark.

Hello,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, it is your editor. I did use the save
and save as operation. Was it meant that the names of the presets
would be saved as well? Because that doesn't work for me. I also
tried to save not only it as a sysex file but with the same save
operation I changed the extension to .txt, I thought maybe the names
are stored separately as a text file, but that also didn't help. So,
the question is, is storing the names a functionality that you have
programmed into the editor or not? Does your manual clarify this
maybe then I will wait for a few days mor.

Thanks anyway,

Herb

It turned out that it was indeed a bug in the program which affected
the reopening of syx/txt files (not the saving). I hadn't spotted this
bug earlier because it only occurred for the ELEMENT
(button/encoder/fader) names of the MEMORY presets (not of the
temporary preset, "preset 0"). Tricky.

In fact, the bug was in the routine that copies one element to
another, so it also occurred if you used the "Copy" and "Paste"
routines for any element.

I've fixed it now - just in time for version 1.1.0, which is
completely ready now. I just want to run some final tests to see if
nothing disastrous has gone wrong before I upload it.

Thanks a lot anyway for pointing out this problem!

The new manual is completely ready as well, apart from a final spellcheck.

It won't be long now...

Mark.
