What do you mean - what does it look like when opened? You have to transfer it directly to an FZ formatted disk, using some image conversion program, don't you, before the data is correctly set?

Re: [casiocollectors] FZ optional software

this could be a flawed attempt to preserve the playbacker disk

it doesn't contain much asci
should the code within be dissassemble-able?

 is it object code?

ive got somewhere a lattace -c take on the fz disks , you write code in c ,
compile to linkable object code , and write onto a fz formatted disk this
compillied executable.

but im new (8 years into) the old school programming world .. c was never
strong point , i use mainily pascal ,asm,or basic to write programs in

i'll upload some hacker stuff which permits fz disks to be written to and
read on a older pc (i think!)
into the files section ..
 anycoders reverse this
playbacker
lets code!

Hey Charlie that would be great! Yes I happened to find that playbacker image somewhere on the net by accident, don't know if it will work. Any work on converting and archiving these resources is greatly appreciated.

By the way, I have someone working with me to write a WinXP version of FZDump, for high speed sample dumping to/from PC using a special FZ-1 parallel port cable. I just got hold of the cable he made me, and a beta version of the XP version of FZDump. I'll let you know my progress.

Cheers, Graham

its not that un pleasent sending single samples via midi cable , but the fz
serial cable would really speed up full disk dumps.

file uploaded , i cheked notify group but the action was not intiated.

lets us know graham
many thanks

No, it's not too bad - although I have a 2MB memory in my machine, and a full sample load can take a good half hour to dump. I just go and make a coffee and come back later

Where did you put the file? Try uploading again - you may have to use something other than IE8 to do it, this new yahoo has problems with uploading on IE8

The port on the FZ1 is a parallel port, but the pin order or not the same as in a PC ( in the service manual you have de name of the pin ).
A have made the cable to transfer samples from My fz1 to my Hohner HS1and it work.
I have not try with a PC( I have to make an other cable for PC to FZ1 and find a PC to test FZDUMP )
I'll let you know

Hi
Juste to let you know that I have been able to modify a floppy drive for my PC to use Omniflop to copy floppy disk.
I have test with play backer tool image and it works.
I can make image file and write it to a new floppy.
I should be able to modify some other floppy drive if someone need one.
Paul

its notable that the crew has been able to resurect a playback and record
tool for the casio fz1 .

I have uploaded the image file.
It's all the image I have used to make my floppy so I am sure it work.
some are image I make with Omniflop and a modifyed floppy drive.
If you need real floppy contact me directly.

Re: [casiocollectors] FZ optional software

It would be handy if someone would just upload the Omniflop .img files for the Optional Disks. Then we could all use Omniflop to burn them to FZ disks.

Re: [casiocollectors] FZ optional software

2014-03-28 by <plesecq@...>

The zip files I have uploaded are Omniflop .img files of optional software.
You need to modify a floppy drive to be able to write them to floppy disk ( force 360 RPM 1.3 mo ).
You can not write the .IMG file with a standard floppy drive.

Re: [casiocollectors] FZ optional software

No because I haven't the the same floppy drive as Butchy.
you have to find a floppy drive that have the 1.6 mo mode( 1.3 mo formatted ) and do some hard wire ( i have use an Alps df354 N ).
I have force density select to low and cut the trace from pin 2.

Re: [casiocollectors] FZ optional software

That's fantastic m8!
Thanks!
Going to burn them with Omniflop later. Finger crossed.
I don't understand why you say you modified your floppy drive to use with Omniflop.

Re: [casiocollectors] FZ optional software

2014-03-29 by <plesecq@...>

You have to use a modified floppy drive if you want to make a standard floppy for the Casio FZ1.
The Casio FZ1 use a floppy drive that run at 360 RPM and not 300 like a standard PC (it's the 1.3 MO Japanese standard) .
and Omniflop cant set a standard floppy drive to run at 360 RPM with a standart floppy drive controller (I have been in contact with Jason the Omniflop Developer and he is looking at that ).
But if your FZ1 have a PC floppy drive it should work.
I have made some test before with a standard Floppy drive and it don't work for me.
If someone want modified floppy drive I have some for 20 euros +shipping cost; you can contact me Off-liste

Re: [casiocollectors] FZ optional software

2014-03-29 by <jimshoppin@...>

Ah ok. I thought the point of Omniflop was to be able to write floppies for various floppy drives types, such as Shugart.
It's pointless for Omniflop to have Casio FZ20M floppy image drivers if it can't use them.

That explains why, even though Omniflop writes your provided images fine to my FZ floppies, using the Casio FZ20M HD driver in Omniflop, without error, my FZ-1 cannot make sense of the burnt disks.
The optional disks remain out of reach, lol.

I just paid for a Lotharek floppy emulator. Damn they are expensive!!! Too expensive! I need 5 of them oO!
Got tired of saving every project twice just in case one floppy goes bad overnight. When you do this for multiple samplers it gets a right PITA. Even after verifying the floppies are good by formatting them first in the Akai S1000 (which checks for bad blocks), things are not certain.
I have CF readers in all my samplers with SCSI but for the rest... the floppy emulator is the only way to go... Need to sell a couple of kidney's to afford em though. Lotharek must make a very tidy profit on each one he sells.

My problem now is deciding which sampler gets the emulator.
Erm... so no thanks m8. I can't bring myself to buy yet another floppy drive, cheers.

I think that's where the HxC drive can come in handy - if the optional software disks are copied in HxC format, they can be stored on SD card, along with sample banks in HxC format.

I think as FZ users, we are on the crux of evolving into the next generation of FZ life forms.

I have been keeping an eye on the HxC forum, there is a lot going on with the FZ. You should all read up on this thread for developments:

http://torlus.com/floppy/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=408

I have one of the optional software disks in HxC format from that site (.hfe format) - the FZ20M SCSI drive controller disk. As far as I understand, if someone has a HxC drive installed in the FZ with a HxC formatted SD card, all they have to do is put the SD card in a computer and put the optional software programs on the card, then put it in the FZ and load it, as if it was the floppy disk. I have put it in the FILES section, in a new folder called "HxC floppy drive emulator". I also put some shareware disk files in hfe format in there also, for people to test their drives, in a "samples" folder in that folder. I'll also load up the HxC PC editor/loader software as well. Perhaps someone who has all this gear can turn those other optional software images into .hfe files for the HxC drive, that would be great!

Cheers, Graham

Re:: Re: [casiocollectors] FZ optional software

The HxC is working indeed fine with the FZ-20M. You can directly use the F variant sold by Lotharek:

http://lotharek.pl/product.php?pid=121

It is needed to remove allmost all boards in the FZ-20M to get down to the floppy drive, but it is worth the effort. There are quite a few disks available as .fzf files which can be directly converted by the curent version of HxCFloppyEmulator.exe (there is no need to use the beta version available here).

To the available optional software programs so far:

FZ_Play_Backer_Tool_Disk
Casio_FL-D1_OptionalSoftware_HDDOPERATOR

I added this one for FZ1 and 10M/20M:
FZ_Hardware_Checker

Uploaded to the files section.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
