It's not as important as you may think. Well designed gear often connects
together with no issues. I certainly mix a lot of brands with no issues.
Occasionaly a designer will lack foresight and do something stupid like
connecting a zener straight across an input, and onther will do something
stupid like not current limiting an output, and when the two are connected, zap.
I guess the most common "standards" are
+/- 5v for ac signals
0 to 5v (or 10v) for control signals
0 to 5v for trig and gate signals.
