Re: Beginner: Part for Digital Noise and Saw Pitch Shifter

2005-12-10 by Charles Osthelder

Finally! A fair price! Thanks for the tip Larry.

I'd been calling various suppliers and buying their entire stock.
Usually, this meant a meager 4-5 IC's because nobody wants inventory
of obsolete goods. My biggest find was from a company in California
that was going to throw all the CMOS stuff in the dumpster - including
forty 4006 IC's.

If you know of an electronics parts house that used to sell CMOS chips
or perhaps is getting out of the single parts buisiness, ask what
they've got in the backroom. They'll be glad to clean out the stuff.
If you're cool about it, they'll usually let you dig through it
yourself just to save themselves the hassle.

True story - I live near Milwaukee, home of the famous Lo Duca
Brothers music business. Joe Lo Duca built an empire by importing
Italian accordians, guitars and organs (you know the brands - EKO,
Farfisa, SEM) and the Lo Duca building was full of all kinds of odd
stuff. In 1996, I went there and asked if they had any old stock.
The manager, Mickey Lo Duca (tight family) had one of his men take me
to "the dead room". It was an entire floor of this huge 8 story
building FULL of keyboard parts, odd tubes, electronic and mechanical
flotsam of every persuasion. I was like a pig in slop! By the time
I'd gathered my treasures - enough to fill the back of my old pickup -
I found two Leslie rotors, an oil can echo unit, a gross of knobs and
all kinds of loose electronics. That truckload cost me $50 cash.

You need something? Just ask. My wife will send it to you...
