Beginner: Part for Digital Noise and Saw Pitch Shifter

Beginner: Part for Digital Noise and Saw Pitch Shifter

2005-12-09 by Chris McDonald

Putting together a mouser order and using Bob Knarley's page as a guide for parts (I read the instructions, that's it, when a part is discontinued I am stumped). Can anyone give me mouser numbers for the 200k Trims for the Saw Pitch Shifter and the 4046 Semi for the Digital Noise, the ones listed on Bob's site are now discontinued.

Thanks and sorry
Chris

woah, mouser quit stocking the 4046. that sucks. They have an NTE part
there, I would expect it to work fine, but I haven't tried it. In case
you don't know, NTE makes replacement parts. I usually stay away from
them, partly because of the price, but I have used some NTE parts in
modules in the past. I would pay the $2 extra to avoid shipping charges
and ordering from another shop.

I'm not totally sure on the trimmers. well, I'm just not sure what
footprint is used in Ken's PCBs. It seems that it can handle some
different sizes. So, I'm fairly certain this one will work: 652-3306F-1-204
note, you can probably use a a 250K trim pot which may be more common.

200k, 220k, 250k all fine. It depends on where in the world and when that
these variations are used.

As for the footprint, by boards usually accept several footprints, as long
as the outer pins are 0.2" (5mm) apart.

You found a 4006 IC? I'm still trying to collect these for people.
Let me know if you need one - free!

Chub and all

I just ordered 10 4006 from HSC Electronic Supply, for $0.49 each.
Here is the link:
https://www.halted.com/commerce/catalog/product.jsp?product_id=12317&czuid=1134173901765

or just go to: https://www.halted.com/ and put 4006 into the seach box
in the upper right of the page.

They also list 4046's for $0.65 each.

Finally! A fair price! Thanks for the tip Larry.

I'd been calling various suppliers and buying their entire stock.
Usually, this meant a meager 4-5 IC's because nobody wants inventory
of obsolete goods. My biggest find was from a company in California
that was going to throw all the CMOS stuff in the dumpster - including
forty 4006 IC's.

If you know of an electronics parts house that used to sell CMOS chips
or perhaps is getting out of the single parts buisiness, ask what
they've got in the backroom. They'll be glad to clean out the stuff.
If you're cool about it, they'll usually let you dig through it
yourself just to save themselves the hassle.

True story - I live near Milwaukee, home of the famous Lo Duca
Brothers music business. Joe Lo Duca built an empire by importing
Italian accordians, guitars and organs (you know the brands - EKO,
Farfisa, SEM) and the Lo Duca building was full of all kinds of odd
stuff. In 1996, I went there and asked if they had any old stock.
The manager, Mickey Lo Duca (tight family) had one of his men take me
to "the dead room". It was an entire floor of this huge 8 story
building FULL of keyboard parts, odd tubes, electronic and mechanical
flotsam of every persuasion. I was like a pig in slop! By the time
I'd gathered my treasures - enough to fill the back of my old pickup -
I found two Leslie rotors, an oil can echo unit, a gross of knobs and
all kinds of loose electronics. That truckload cost me $50 cash.

You need something? Just ask. My wife will send it to you...
