Bite the bullet. You could use leaded parts between the IC pins, or between
the pads if you want, but seriously, soldering on 1206 parts is easy.

Tin one pad. Pop the 1206 on, and heat the tinning while holding the 1206
down. I use my fingernail to do that. Solder other side. Resolder first
side. Done.
