I doubt it would go over 8 volts. It seems to hover around 6-8 volts with
the range set to max.

If you keep your ratios right it should be okay. Don't omit the resistor
though, as you will overstress the CMOS chip.

Base connects to pyschoLFO output. Collector goes to +ve rail. Emitter goes
through 470R to LED to ground. LED cathode faces ground. Transistor is NPN
such as BC547 or any other general purpose signal NPN.
