Basic electronics question (Newbie warning)

Basic electronics question (Newbie warning)

2004-10-28 by stuadh

Hi list,

I'm building my first real module, the CGS52 simple wavefolder.

I'm working on the inputs and outputs and I've notices that there
is only space for one 0V lead. Am I correct in assuming that you
do not need to wire the sleeve of the 3.5mm sockets (In, Out (S)
and Out (T)) to 0V, but that you can leave them hanging?

Am I right also in assuming that the 0V hole is or the wiper of
the 100K pot?

Yours Aye

Stuadh

Hi Stuadh
the sleeves of the sockets all need to be linked and then run a wire
back to the 0V.
with the pot, if you are looking at it from behind (shaft pointing
away from you), the tab on the left also needs to be linked to the 0V
chain.
the center tab goes to the 'in' hole.
the right tab is connected to the input socket's 'hot' pin.

it is common to see schematics where the details for the sockets are
not shown, mainly because it is always the same. sockets always need
to be connected to 0V.
have fun!

Another Basic electronics question (Newbie warning)

In the Bandpass filter, what is the "CX" component at the OUT
point?

Nothing. If you look on the other side of the PCB, you will find the
terminals of that area are shorted together. It is there as an option for
more advanced builders should they need to make the output AC coupled. They
would do this by cutting the track under CX and soldering a capacitor into
the CX spot (probably 100n).
