Synth Pics

Hi Guys. I just completed the modules for my next cabinet of the
modular. I decided to build a cabinet to house 7 frac racks as well
as my fatman. I don't have the cabinet finished yet, but I uploaded
a couple pics of the new synth. I'm excited to be this close to
being "finished". After this, it's "so long" to the frac racks and
hello Moog style panels!

Rob,

Nice looking synth. care to share a list of what modules are in it?

Thanks lbd. I can tell you what I've got in it right now.
The bottom Rack has : 1 CGS CV Cluster (Cool module!), 1 EFM dual
VCO 3d, and 3 EFM VCO 4Es, modelled after the Mood Prodigy. I had
to tweak them to get satisfactory waveforms for the sine and square,
but it tracks well and sounds great.
The next rack from the bottom has : A Moog filter clone, an EMS
filter, an EFM VCF 6c diode ladder filter (I like this filter), an
Oberheim style 2 pole filter with BH,HP,Lp and notch as well as a 1p
filter, an ARP 4072 clone, a CGS Steiner filter (Still needs
tweaking. DC offset needs adjusting on the CV lines)
Next row is : CGS Joystick controller, dual positive slew limiter,
banana to 1/8" adapters for the custom Fatman shown in cabinet 1, a
CGS gate to trig converter, a CGS saw wave pitch shifter/wave
multiplier, a slew limiter (linear and not gated although it will be
in a week or two) and a MIDI to CV converter.
Nest rack up has an EFM dual VCA with crossfade, another EFM VCA,
this time with a CGS mixer hacked into the EFM PC board for the hell
of it. Next to that is an EFM waveshaper and a 4 input, 1 out mixer
with no attenuators. (doh!) and where the blank panel is, I actually
have a CGS power supply that feeds a voltage source giving variable
outputs between 0 and +10v, 0 and -10v and -10 and +10v. Also
included is a voltage follower and an inverter. Very handy.
In the second rack from the top is a CGS Master Divider. I love
this module. It is so useful. It can not only divide clock
signals, but can be used as a sub oscillator, and when plugged into
a few drum oscillators as a beat matrix. I can think of countless
uses for this and highly reccomend having AT LEAST 1. Next up are 2
CGS mixers with attenuators for the master level. Beside those is a
fully modular CGS Cynare complete with shimmer controls. Pictured
in the top rack from the left is a CGS Tube VCA and Wavefolder. It
works but I haven't built a separate 6V supply yet, so it goes
unused until that gets built. I don't think that you can see, but I
mounted a little piece of plastic inside of the veiwing hole to act
as a window to look at the tube from. Purely aesthetic. beside
that is an EFM ring modulator and preamp with purple LEDs. I just
got a lot of these as well as pinks and am really excited by them.
Holy cow are they bright though! Beside that is a CGS Psycho LFO
and next to that is an EFM Voltage Controlled LFO 5a. I love this
module and reccomend building one because it has a great staircase
generator and the sample and hold is really nice too with a little
tweaking. (write to me for more on that.) Beside that are 2 EFM
ADSRs. I like them, but i really wish someone would design a Juno
style multi stage envelope generator. These are really valuable,
especially when trying to sequence punchy basslines. Voltage
controlled stages would just be a plus. There seems to be nobody
making these at the moment. Not pictured, is the 7th rack which
includes a CGS wavetable. (haven't found a machine to cut the square
holes for the display, any ideas?), a dual sawtooth/square LFO, 6
voltage attenuators, gated portamento and an interface providing RCA
to stereo 1/4 to stereo 1/8" to 2 mono 1/4ths to 2 mono 1/8ths to
bananas with panning to top it off. I also have a Fatman that has
been surgically modified, separating each "module" with banana jacks
and decoupleing components in order to make it compatible with the
modular. Maybe once I build the big cabinet, I'll give you guys
some sound samples using the CGS stuff. I plan on trying to build
all of Ken's projects, but I want to wait until I get the Moog style
cabinet before I start. I've learned alot by building this system,
and now I hope to build some more ergonomic modules.
