steiner capacitor advice

2005-07-13 by eblake_smith

I was about to order parts from mouser based on a list on the
internet to put together a steiner vcf. Unfortunately one of the
listed parts, the 100n capacitor, has been discontinued. It was a
polyester capacitor. Anyways, there is a similar "metalized"
polyester capacitor and I'm wondering if anyone knows whether
or not that would be an acceptable substitute. thanks.

yes metalized is fine. I pretty much always use those in the audio path,
and in my steiner filter. someone said they were better but I doubt I'd
ever notice the difference.

the important things to check are: pin spacing, you'll want 0.2" lead
spacing for this one. and voltage, get about 63V if you can. sometimes
the larger voltage poly caps are too wide and won't fit in between other
parts on some boards.

I'd reccomend a mouser part # but the series I used was discontinued.
probably the same one from the list you saw.

Just about any 100n / 0.1uF cap will do.

I think you are talking about those MKT caps, try 505-MKP20.01/100/5
from Mouser...
