Max audio voltages

Max audio voltages

2006-01-10 by josh

Hey, what is the max audio voltages for mixers, amplifiers and home
stereos. I have the Ken Stone VCO of which i just built and the square
wave output generates a voltage that is about 12-15 Vpk-pk. I'm scared
to run this into any of my other audio gear with out an attenuator or
some sort. Should i be scared? I guess a better question is should my
VCO generate 15Vpk-pk on the squareware output. Looking at the
schematic it's just a simple comparator so i guess it should shot off
to the upper/lower voltage rails.

Don't connect to any sort of line-in level device thingie....
I build a very small attenuator (2 jacks, one pot) to go back to line
levels.

I'm not sure if 15Vpk-pk is normal. check resistor values...
I've got a MOTM VCO that gives 10Vpk-pk....

Cheers,
ToAd

my o-scope might not be calibrated correctly... i have been thinking it
reads voltages a bit high. It;s really old. Thanks for the post.

Look at the stomp-box adapters. These are for synth to line-level
conversion. I'd go 20 to 1. i.e. feed the signal in to a 22k resistor which
is in series with a 1k resistor, the other end of wchi is grounded. Take
your line-level from the junction of the two resistors.

so just create a voltage divider. will i have trouble matching impedences
that way or should i add a voltage follower on the other side of the voltage
divider?

I doubt you will have any problems. The output impedence would be 1k.

Some of the earlier CGS designs have pretty hot output levels.
