Synthacon VCF

Hi all,
I am trying to build the Synthacon VCF, it really looks like a great filter.
I etched a PCB, built it with all the corrections (electrolitics in the
right polarity, 1k resistor in resonance pot instead of 10k, etc, etc, etc).
But... I am getting a HUGE thermal noise, resonance seems to have no effect
at all, the Highpass input is not affected by freq CV... where can I begin
to look? Has anyone built one that works OK who could give me any advice?
I used all brand new components, and the 2N2222 are in plastic case. Of
course, in those the E and C terminals are inverted, and I did put them in
the "right" way.
