new RRM vs. older RRM

new RRM vs. older RRM

2008-04-07 by p. hendricks

hi Ken,
it appears the RRMs I just received don't have the germanium diodes as
before:
http://cgs.synth.net/modules/cgsrr.html
" Each is hand assembled using matched 1969 germanium diodes (from a
computer of the same vintage) and a pair of brand new 3k impedance
transformers."

The new ones look like silicone diodes instead?
any reason for the change, what's the difference sonically?

thanks!
phil

Hi Phil,

they are still germanium diodes. Not all of the diodes I had from those
computers looked the same.
The very latest batch actually used new germanium diodes because I ran out
of the vintage ones.

The sound remains the same.
