and 50k. In fact if you read them with a meter, you will find they vary by
as much as 20%. I have some 50k that measure 60k.
Often even the value is not important. When a pot is used as a voltage
divider at an input, I usually specify 100k, as this presents minimal
loading, and has a reasonable reponse curve in relation to where the knob is
set. The lower the value of the pot, the more leinear that curve will be
(for linear pots of course) though the greater the load on whatever is
driving it. in those circumstances anything between 10 and 250k could be
used without much grief.
