progress report-tube VCA

This is coming along as quickly as one would expect from me at this
point...

The 6064-based VCA is very nice and behaves in the manner Ken
describes. Turn the drive control past the halfway mark and some
wonderful assemetrical clipping/wavefolding occurs. The positive
side of a sine input gets folded into a doubled-frequency sine above
0 volts and the negative half gets a slightly ramped clip with nearly
straight rise and fall. Terrifying...

With modulation, the fun increases! Tremolo is the obvious effect,
but increasing the CV frequency above audio creates real mayhem.
Weird "birdies" and heterodynes along with other non-pitched sounds.
Applying a little FM at the VCO creates a sound quite like tuning my
amateur radio receiver dial across the band. Mmmmm....

For output, I'm going with an inverting amp with switchable gain-from
x2 to x4-to cover the range of the VCA. This is followed by a
voltage follower (unity gain buffer) to provide a nice stout signal
for further patching. A TL072 will perform these two tasks nicely.

This will fit into an MOTM-format single-width panel with six 1/4
jacks, two drive control pots and one CV level pot (I'll live with
one VCA left wide open) for a useful dual VCA/wavebruiser.

This week I'll etch a board and bend the sheetmetal.
