I'm going fo it (Synthicon VCF)

I'm going fo it (Synthicon VCF)

2004-05-06 by earthtodylan2000

With everyones help and good advise I've decided to build a
Synthicon VCF.

Does anyone have a current Mouser part # list for the VCA?
Something I can send to them to order.

Thanks,
David Scott Stone

If you meant parts for the VCF then, there's one at Bob Knarley's synth
page:
http://www.bobknarley.com/synth/parts/parts.html

I bought my parts a while back for about $8. it's too bad, mouser makes
you buy 10packs of those resistors now. This is a cool filter though. I
finally built me one about a week ago. When I get some time I'm going to
try and add CV to the Resonance. Still trying to analyze the circuit,
anyone have the circuit equations written down?

Most interested in that mod, keep us updated !
Does adding a potmeter for the resonance give good results ?

The original article on the filter by Nyle Steiner can be found here:

Bob Knarley's parts list for the Synthacon VCF is a good one. It's
important to use good capacitors. The 23PS222 polystyene part
especially. I used metalized polyester caps for the 1uf values that pass
the signal, Mouser 75-MKT1826510064. Also, it is worth looking at the
message archives for resistor values to use on the CV inputs, as given
by John Loffink. In my Synthacon's, I substituted a 100nf capacitor for
the 1uf on the base of the 2N2222 that mixes the CV inputs. This cap
adds some lowpass filtering on the CV. I don't know why it was 1uf. I
found several older Synthacon circuits on the Internet, and some of them
omitted this cap.

I did not add a VCA for resonance control. So I can't help there.

10 packs of resistors? I started buying 200 packs of the common
values. Only $4.00. The price drops to 2 cents each.

Me too. Now, I rarely have to buy a resistor because of the stock I
built up ordering them this way. Why pay 9 cents when you can pay 2?
:)
