Bit One problem? any help out there?

Bit One problem? any help out there?

2003-08-02 by foowlw

I've had a bit one for a while, and have discovered a strange oddity;
when i hold three notes, then strike a fourth, the fourth note will
be twice or three times as loud. This problem also occurs if the
polyphony is overloaded via a slow release. Anyone know if this is
typical/fixable?

Another oddity is on some presets, where pressing one note will give
a pitch, but on pressing a seccond will shift both notes a half-note
up. Has anyone experianced this or do i just have a broken synth?

I've been working on mine for some time now and I'm getting to now it a
bit now. I've had the same problem as well. You may may want to try hold
the forth note and press the filterboard on several places. In this way
i found some contacts that needed resoldering. After that the problem
disappeared. In my case I had to resolder some resistors like the one
indicated with nr 149. You can also switch the filter of voice 4 with
that of an other voice to check if you have to replace that one.

If you're sure that it's not the ADSR parameter that is switched on,
your 'other' oddity sounds like one of the DCO's is broken. There are
four of them (M5L8253P-5: components 22,23,24,25). In my case the lower
DCO2 was completely broken (compnoent nr 23) which resulted in al notes
coming from this DCO being completetely out of tune. Put he synt in
double mode with the same presed on both lower and upper. Probably the
preset doesn't show any problem on upper which leaves you two lower
DCO's to check.Switch of parameters 27,28 and 29 or 38,39 and 40 to find
out if it's DCO1 or DCO2 that's causing the problem.

I'm sure there must be a more professional way to locate the problems
but I'm getting pretty far this way. Good luck

oops, forgot to mention that when you use the mono output you should
always put lower volume to maximum and use upper volume for volume
control, otherwise the first 3 notes sound weaker thean notes 4,5 and 6.
This might be the cause of problem nr 1.
