Hi all 

    I am having a few problems with a recently purchased ds-2.I cannot
get the poly to work right,It stays in mono mode and always has the
lowest key sounding.The other notes work ,but as soon as notes are
released it goes back to the lowest note!!?? Also the release of the
adsr circuit does the same thing it just sounds the lowest note.the
high pass and low pass circuit does nothing in poly mode either.Also
there is significant popping in the vcf and vca circuits heard at the
initial attack of all notes.I have changed all but one of the power
supply caps and a few opamps and the only result is less noise and
crackles.I am at a loss as to what to check for, any ideas?

Hi Joshua,

Regarding the "stuck" key: Have you checked the caps on the keyboard? 
There should be one cap per key. Sometimes these will fry and the 
corresponding note will sound continuously. I haven't experienced that 
problem on my DS-2, but it's a common ailment with Arp Omnis, so perhaps 
it's a factor here too. Incidentally, I recall a recent posting from 
someone with this same problem. It was probably in the past four to six 
weeks. Check the archive and see what you can find.

As for your problems getting poly mode to work: Have you checked to make 
sure all your IC cards are firmly seated into their slots, and to ensure 
no other internal connections have come loose? I ask because when I 
received my DS-2, the monosynth wasn't working. I opened the synth and 
found a card had slipped from its slot. I popped it back in and all was 
well.

maybe i should clarify the problem a little better.When in poly mode,
it stays monophonic and always sounds the lowest note.The others keys
work its just stuck on the low note.In mono mode everything works fine
till I use the r slider, the notes then revert back to lowest note. I
can play it but as soon as I release a note it sounds the lowest note.
if I turn the release off it works fine. thanks

still no luck with repairing this beast.I have changed the power
supply caps and that quietend things up a bit.

Hi,

It sounds like you may have a blown capacitor in the keyboard itself.
Chances are the capacitor for the "stuck" note is bad and needs to be
replaced. Your best bet is to locate it and replace it and see if that
fixes the problem. If it does, you should go ahead and change all the
capacitors for the keyboard, because they will eventually blow. You
also mentioned changing the caps in the power supply. If the power
supply caps were bad, then you may have had excessive voltages going
out to the DS2's circuits. This could certainly cause other capacitors
to fail. Just one more reason why I suspect you have a bad cap in the
keyboard. 

I don't know what could be causing your popping noises.
