I have just purchased an Epson 1280 from Epson and want to tame my
color workflow; been printing MIS UT for about two years.

I am looking into the Spyder2 Suite and wondering if I need this or
just the Spyder2express to match what is on my monitor to what comes
out of the 1280. I will be using MISPRO pigment inks with Epson's best
papers.

Does anybody have any insight into this setup and which Colorvision
solution I will need to match monitor and printer outputs?

Express will allow you to do the simple thing: calibrate your monitor to gamma 2.2, whitepoint 6500k. Thats all that many users need. But if you are trying to get a match between shadow detail in B&W work and the monitor, then you may well need some of the advanced tools and features in Spyder2PRO at some point. And if you might well want PrintFIX PRO for profiling/linearizing your output as well, so there are three possible levels of investment, with increasing tools and capabilities.
