The results you describe would tend to indicate incorrect settings, or some other issue. The 2200 profiles excellently with PrintFIX PRO, with target prints that show a full range of bright colors, varying a bit depending on media setting.
Did you print the target direct from PrintFIX PRO, with color management in the driver set to No Color Adjustment, or equivalent?
Have you tried building RGB ImagePrint Profiles for your media to use on top of the ImagePrint CMYK profile and settings? It can't improve your gamut any further, since that is CMYK profile limited, but it can tune your output to your particular printer.
