Re: new monitor - 1990sxi ???

2006-09-08 by aargvork

Hi,

Yes the 1990SXi is the replacement for the 1980SXi. As I understand
it,the 1980 unit processed data to 10 bits precision internally and
the 1990 processes to 12. Don't have a 1990SXi but do own 2
1980SXi's. Very good LCDs for the money.

What you want, according to the imaging gurus out there is an LCD
panel built with IPS (in-plane switching technology) Unfortunately,
this is costlier than the TN or MVA types. to find out what type of
panel a manufacturer uses go here
http://www.flatpanels.dk/panels.php and type in the manufactuer to
do a search. The next NEC model down using IPS is the 1970NX which
is an 8-bit precision monitor. It's about half the cost of the
1990SXi. No experience with that one, but it uses the same panel
that the 1980SXi uses, just processes to 8 bits internally.

Hope that helps,

Robert
