On another forum the question of making profiles for the Canon printers
arose. One member with an ipF 9000 stating he was unable to profile
some non Canon papers due to over inking, etc. You were around these
machines at the kina. What do you know about this issue?

I have not had excess ink in raw (unprofiled) prints for profiling targets on the iPF printers. I have not had difficulty profiling these printers through either the drivers, or the Photoshop Export modules. One user in these threads seems to want to build n-channel (in his case seven channel!) profiles, and feed them to RGB drivers, which is not possible (and not reasonable either). Others may be talking about ink limiting in RIPs. I don't care much about either of those issues since I can get gallery quality color and B&W prints on a range of gloss and matte fine art papers right through the Canon driver and export module with PrintFIX PRO 2.0 profiles... I don't see any reason to make it more difficult than that.
