If the lab or other outsource printing option is color managed (meaning it reads the ICC profile tagged to your images, and converts to an accurate profile for its output) then yes, just calibrating your monitor and tagging your files (or having them in the expected space for the lab) wil do the trick. If its not color managed, then there isn't really anything you can do but grumble, and possibly find another source of prints. For the 99 percent of users that also have at least one color printer of their own, profiling that is also part of the equation for full color control.
